CAMBRIDGE & DISTRICT BILLIARDS & SNOOKER LEAGUE

IMPORTANT

Immediately following our next League Meeting on Monday 10th April 2006 we will be holding a special BILLIARDS meeting when anybody interested is welcome to attend and give their opinion and views. Some of the issues requiring attention are:-

a) Formation and structure of next season’s league.

b) Promotion of billiards in our area.

c) How do we increase the size of our league?

d) Should we have more individual competitions?

Over the past few years the size of our league has declined it is therefore very important that we reverse this trend, we have the structure and enjoy a high standard of play let us now capitalise on this.

The meeting will take at NCI Sports & Social Club, Holland Street, Cambridge on Monday 10th April at 7.45pm.

Your attendance and input is very important to the future of our league.

ALL players are encouraged to attend, and to come armed with any ideas about how to increase participation in the Cambridge Billiards League.

It is vital that all players who have an interest in the future of the league attend this meeting, as it is possible that some major changes will be proposed. It is important therefore, that everyone has a chance to put forward their opinions.

If you are a player who has played billiards in the past, or has been thinking about joining a team, or forming a new team, please come along on Monday and share your views on the league.

If you are unhappy at the way the league is currently running then this is your chance to make a difference!

The Cambridge League is one of the best in the Country and we need to keep it that way!

Monday night - NCI Club - 7.45pm for 8pm start.

Special Billiards Meeting Held @ NCI 10/4/06

Following our league meeting of the 10/4/06 a Billiards only meeting was held and was attended by the Chairman, Record Secretary, General Secretary and 10 delegates representing 4 clubs. The general consensus of opinion was that we must at all cost endeavour to preserve 2 divisions as the standard between them was significant and to encourage more teams to enter. Several suggestions were forthcoming:-

1. Encourage players who were no longer able to play for clubs who had withdrawn from our league to make themselves available for other clubs and to find new players.
2. Increase our area.
3. Advertising.
4. Billiards to manage their own affairs possibly via specialist delegates.
5. Smaller teams.
6. Change in start time.
7. Timed play (i.e. 1 hour).
8. Change the day we play to a Monday.

From all the above suggestions it was decided to talk to all clubs in respect of timed play and a change of day as these were thought to be the most likely to achieve our objectives. The Record Secretary would report back on his findings.
It was felt by all that we must not change anything which could harm anything which we already have and a further meeting would be advantageous.

Peter Johnson
General Secretary.

BILLIARDS MEETING

MONDAY 10TH JULY 2006 AT NCI @ 8PM

The above date has now been set as a follow-up to our meeting of the 10/4/06. It was important to set a date before the 17th July when entries for next season should be with the Records Secretary. Even if you do not currently play in or have a billiards team at your club your input at this meeting could be valuable and who knows could lead to a new team.

I enclose a copy of the minutes of our last meeting and look forward to seeing you on the night.

Peter Johnson
General Secretary
