I just wanted to give you all an update as to where we are with any thoughts about re-starting the league, the completion of the current league and the subsequent start of the new season within the Southport Snooker League.

The status of the clubs...??
Firstly we have to deal with the state of where each of the clubs within the league are with allowing visiting players or teams in to the clubs, as the answer to that question differs hugely depending on which club you talk to. Some clubs are not even open at the moment, some are open at the weekend only and some for members of that particular club only. We do have a few clubs that, could in theory, start to accept the playing of league fixtures should that happen anytime soon. But with so many clubs out of action due to the Covid restrictions the resumption of the league is some time off as we are right now.

The committee...
With that in mind the committee will have to determine how we complete the last 4 rounds of fixtures of the 'current' season, or if we even do play them out, to finalise the league and the final tables of the 2019/20 season. This decision however will not be made until we have returned to a state of play where each and every club is back to accepting people back in to the clubs.

I have over the past few days spoken with someone from each club in the league and it is obvious from the comments and feed back i am receiving we are some way away from the resumption of any snooker returning soon to some of the clubs. We just have to be patient with what the Government guide lines are and hope that this Covid pandemic leaves us soon.

I will of course keep you up to date with any news should I hear it...

Stay safe, hope to see you all on the green baize soon...

Many thanks...

I wish you all good luck for the new season, and lets hope for some close battles and tight finishes in this the Southport Leagues 75th year of competition.
