The obvious place to put the contact details would be on a players personal results page and the team players page?

That sounds about right to me - I think you should have forms for Mobile Number, Home Number, and Email Address (all optional of course, you'd have to get each player's consent to put in the data - maybe get players to email their details themselves or send them on another player's behalf?)

I would suggest using the forum as a means of contacting people. If it could be set up so that people can send private messages to each other (as most forums do) it would allow people to be contactable without having their email addresses public. The site would email an alert to the player to let them know a PM is waiting for them on the forum. This would stop the email addresses being picked up for junk emails, would increase the usage of the forums, and would increase the 'hits' for the site as well. It may also be possible to incorporate mobile phones in this system as well - a text message sent from the website to the players phone.
Bob, would then of course, be your fathers brother.

The problem as I see it is: Not everyone has emails or mobiles. Some people only have home phone numbers. Would there be a way of registering people to the site so that it only gives out the info to those who need it, instead of showing everyone's phone numbers to the whole of the general public?

How about: A link that says "Contact details" on a player's page, but you need a password to get in? When you get in it gives you the info you need.

OR: League administrators could have a database of each player's phone number, along with email and mobile if applicable, in which case you can just email or phone the administrator to find the number of the player you want.

Hang on a second! In order to view the website at all, one would need a PC with internet access. How many people who have both of these things don't have an email address as well? Not many, if any I would guess. And for those people who don't have internet access the website and any contact details contained on it is of no consequence anyway!

OK, I will link to a contact form if a player's email address exists in the database. At present, no adminsitrators have added any players email addresses to the database, so if you don't mind being contacted, ask your league administrator to add your email address to the database.

OK, its created, if your email address has been added, people can now contact you, and your email address still remains private. See my player page as an example

Nice. And it works. But what about people that lack email addresses or don't supply them? For example I don't the email addresses of any other Woodseaves players other than myself - and they don't all have them, anyway.

And before anyone says "If you're playing someone from Woodseaves, email Neil" - I live in Cardiff...

This works well and I am spreading the word to get as many of my league players on board as well as we are new on here. I am also asking for players comments on having their mobile number displayed, but only accessible to players in the same league who have logged in. Does this sound feasible?
Richard Ormiston (Stafford & District Snooker League) | Posted on Wednesday, November 2, 2005

The problem is that, you do not have to log in to see a players results and this has to be kept like this. One option is to display a players telephone number if they give permission, another is to have a generic password for all players in a the league to access players telephone numbers, but this is not very secure. Any ideas will be welcomed.

When you click on 'Reply to this thread', you then have to log in in order to be able to do it. Couldn't it be made the same when you click on 'Players phone number'?

Also, what has happened to the emailing facility? A few posts back it says that it has been created, but I cant find anyone in our league who has the contact envelope displayed on their page.

Its because no ones email address in your league has been entered into the database, here is one from the Stafford league
Phil Mumford (Cambridge & District Billiards League) | Posted on Tuesday, March 14, 2006

So how do we enter our email addresses? I thought mine was already in because I receive all the update notifications.
Richard Ormiston (Stafford & District Snooker League) | Posted on Tuesday, March 14, 2006

You need to email your league administrator and ask him to add your email address.
Phil Mumford (Cambridge & District Billiards League) | Posted on Wednesday, March 15, 2006

I did that, and he was of the same opinion as me - that is we both thought that once your email address was entered in to the website it would all happen automatically.

Your league administrator, once logged into Admin, needs to click on 'Players', then choose the team in which the player plays in. A list of players for that team will come up and you just need to click on the player concerned. A screen will then come up where you can add that players e-mail address
Richard Ormiston (Stafford & District Snooker League) | Posted on Thursday, March 16, 2006

The reason the email has to be added twice is because some people may want to post on the forum and others just may want to be contacted but not both.
