Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League

(Weekly Report 11/03/25 & 13/03/25)

The Miss Rule For 2024-25 Season

The miss rule will remain exactly the same as the previous two seasons as we all felt it worked very well so it is as follows for the forthcoming 2024-25 season.

In DIVISION 2 LEAGUE MATCHES, ALL SECOND DIVISION CUP MATCHES & ALL DIVISION 2 INDIVIDUAL & PAIRS MATCHES there will be ONE compulsory miss awarded and NO further misses called after this.

If a FIRST DIVISION team OR player is playing a SECOND DIVISION team OR player then just TWO COMPULSORY MISSES ONLY TO BE CALLED AND THEN MOVE ON SO NO DISCRETION GIVEN TO THE MARKER

In DIVISION 1 LEAGUE MATCHES, ALL FIRST DIVISION MATCHES & ALL DIVISION 1 INDIVIDUAL & PAIRS MATCHES then the rule is UNCHANGED from previous seasons so it's TWO compulsory misses awarded then over to the marker’s discretion.

Alternate Picks

Alternate pairings will continue to be used in LEAGUE MATCHES & KENNEY CUP GROUP STAGE MATCHES. Home captain to provide the first name followed by the away captain providing two names. After the completion of the first two frames a third name to be nominated by the home captain followed by two names from the away captain. Once again, and finally, the fifth name to be nominated by the home captain followed by the final two names from the away captain.

Player Handicaps 2024-25 List

The Player Handicap list can be found on our website under the DOCUMENTS section. Representatives are expected to print this out and display in your appropriate club and maybe a good idea would be for all captains or a team player to take a picture of it and store on your phone. THE PLAYER HANDICAP LIST WILL BE UPDATED ONCE DURING THE ENTIRETY OF THE SEASON WHICH WILL BE AT THE CHRISTMAS BREAK BUT THE COMMITTEE HAVE THE POWER TO AMEND ANY PLAYER'S HANDICAP AT ANY TIME IF WE FEEL IT IS INCORRECT SO OBVIOUSLY UNFAIR. Thank you for your co-operation in advance.

Early Start Matches

Please be aware that matches played at Farmers Club will ALWAYS be a 7.30pm start. Thank you for your co-operation in advance.

Reminder – Submitting Results

Can I ask all team captains that if you are borrowing a player from another team (within the league rules) that you text myself (Barry Adlington) IMMEDIATELY to inform me of this and I will place that players name in your team list. This enables you to submit your result correctly. Thank you for your co-operation on this matter.

Neutral Venues Now On Website

Neutral venues for Semi-finals & Finals can now be viewed on our website. This obviously makes it easier for players to view their information without having to contact myself or wait until they are next in their club to consult the monthly circular.

Olympic Bowling Club Dress Code

I have been asked by the Olympic BC committee to remind everyone around the league of their dress code when visiting the club. Smart jeans and trainers are now allowed to be worn but they still have the minimum requirement of a collared shirt or t-shirt. This has not been adhered to recently and can I remind everyone that we must respect the club rules for future visits. Thank you.

Division 1

This time around we continued with our league action in top flight of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. This week saw leaders, Aughton Institute E go into battle with Scarisbrick NSC A and on completion of the contest it saw the Aughton E side record a very solid 4-2 away triumph. This sees them still unbeaten since the resumption after the festive break. This outcome sees them extend their advantage to a very useful three points with just four leagues matches of the season to play.

Stanley Club took on Olympic BC B, this time in yet another vital encounter, and it saw a good battle with neither team able to cement a win in a 3-3 draw. The Olympic B boys will definitely feel the happier of the two outfits as they fought back very well from 3-1 adrift to force the stalemate. The result sees both sides remain unchanged in league position as the Stanley team continue in second place, those three points off the pace-setters whilst the Olympic BC B lads remain in fourth slot, some eight points off the lead. The match also saw Olympic B’s, Chris Connelly in fine touch with a nice break of 34 in his frame success.

Reigning First Division Champions, Fleetwood Hesketh SSC, came up against Aughton Institute A this particular week and at the end of the evening it saw the spoils shared in a 3-3 stalemate. The outcome sees the Fleetwood Hesketh outfit still occupying third spot in the league standings, some seven points behind the leaders. The match also saw Fleetwood’s, Gareth Hibbott in prolific form as ever as he compiled excellent breaks of 49 & 32 in his frame victory, the former break being enough to earn Gareth this week’s ‘Break of the Week’ accolade. Amazingly, this is the eighth time Gareth’s has captured this honour this term.

The other match played this week saw Rainford X SSC clash with Upholland Social and it was the Upholland boys in top form as they recorded an excellent 5-1 away success. This was the Upholland Social’s best win of the current campaign. The result sees the Upholland team move up into fifth in the league proceedings.

Other notable breaks this week were – J Holmes (Fleetwood Hesketh SSC) 45 & M Brown (Fleetwood Hesketh SSC) 39.

Division 2

Second Division league action continued this time around and, firstly, it saw new leaders, Aughton Institute D go into battle with new boys, Skelmersdale Wardens B. A tough encounter as the Skelmersdale B lads have had an excellent debut season but the Aughton D outfit managed to prevail with a solid 4-2 home triumph. This result sees the Aughton Institute D lads hold a three point lead although they have played a match more than their nearest, club compatriot rivals. The match also saw Aughton D’s, Gary Dwyer is superb form with breaks of 28, 22 & 20 in his frame success.

Twice Defending Champions, Farmers Club A came up against high-flying Aughton Institute B, and at the end of the evening it saw neither side being able to record a win in a 3-3 stalemate. The outcome sees the Aughton B lads continue in second position, those three point adrift of the pace-setters but with that vital match in hand over them. The contest saw Farmers A’s, Barry Foster in fine touch with a very nice break of 31 in his frame win.

Olympic BC A take on Farmers Club B and it was the Farmers B side who prevailed and came away with a fine 4-2 victory. The result sees the Farmers Club B team advance into third place in the league proceedings, some six points off the summit. This match saw Farmers B’s, Grant Chappell in great nick as he compiled breaks of 27 & 26 in his frame victory.

Next saw St Cuthberts B clash with Aughton Institute C and it saw the Aughton C boys record back-to-back wins as they produced a solid 4-2 success. This outcome sees the Aughton Institute C outfit move up into fourth position in the league table and this sees them still lying seven points behind the leaders.

The final match, this time around, saw Skelmersdale Wardens A meet St Cuthberts A and after an extremely tight affair it saw both sides come away with a share of the spoils in a 3-3 stalemate. This result sees the Skelmersdale A side unchanged in sixth in the league standings.
