Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League

(Weekly Report 04/02/25 & 06/02/25)

The Miss Rule For 2024-25 Season

The miss rule will remain exactly the same as the previous two seasons as we all felt it worked very well so it is as follows for the forthcoming 2024-25 season.

In DIVISION 2 LEAGUE MATCHES, ALL SECOND DIVISION CUP MATCHES & ALL DIVISION 2 INDIVIDUAL & PAIRS MATCHES there will be ONE compulsory miss awarded and NO further misses called after this.

If a FIRST DIVISION team OR player is playing a SECOND DIVISION team OR player then just TWO COMPULSORY MISSES ONLY TO BE CALLED AND THEN MOVE ON SO NO DISCRETION GIVEN TO THE MARKER

In DIVISION 1 LEAGUE MATCHES, ALL FIRST DIVISION MATCHES & ALL DIVISION 1 INDIVIDUAL & PAIRS MATCHES then the rule is UNCHANGED from previous seasons so it's TWO compulsory misses awarded then over to the marker’s discretion.

Alternate Picks

Alternate pairings will continue to be used in LEAGUE MATCHES & KENNEY CUP GROUP STAGE MATCHES. Home captain to provide the first name followed by the away captain providing two names. After the completion of the first two frames a third name to be nominated by the home captain followed by two names from the away captain. Once again, and finally, the fifth name to be nominated by the home captain followed by the final two names from the away captain.

Player Handicaps 2024-25 List

The Player Handicap list can be found on our website under the DOCUMENTS section. Representatives are expected to print this out and display in your appropriate club and maybe a good idea would be for all captains or a team player to take a picture of it and store on your phone. THE PLAYER HANDICAP LIST WILL BE UPDATED ONCE DURING THE ENTIRETY OF THE SEASON WHICH WILL BE AT THE CHRISTMAS BREAK BUT THE COMMITTEE HAVE THE POWER TO AMEND ANY PLAYER'S HANDICAP AT ANY TIME IF WE FEEL IT IS INCORRECT SO OBVIOUSLY UNFAIR. Thank you for your co-operation in advance.

Early Start Matches

Please be aware that matches played at Farmers Club will ALWAYS be a 7.30pm start. Thank you for your co-operation in advance.

Reminder – Submitting Results

Can I ask all team captains that if you are borrowing a player from another team (within the league rules) that you text myself (Barry Adlington) IMMEDIATELY to inform me of this and I will place that players name in your team list. This enables you to submit your result correctly. Thank you for your co-operation on this matter.

Neutral Venues Now On Website

Neutral venues for Semi-finals & Finals can now be viewed on our website. This obviously makes it easier for players to view their information without having to contact myself or wait until they are next in their club to consult the monthly circular. Circular.

Olympic Bowling Club Dress Code

I have been asked by the Olympic BC committee to remind everyone around the league of their dress code when visiting the club. Smart jeans and trainers are now allowed to be worn but they still have the minimum requirement of a collared shirt or t-shirt. This has not been adhered to recently and can I remind everyone that we must respect the club rules for future visits. Thank you.

Evening All, just a quick report on things this week as I have had an incredibly busy week but normal service will definitely resume next week.

Division 1

This time around we continued with league action in the top flight of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. We saw leaders, Stanley Club, clash with Rainford X SSC and it saw neither team able to record a victory in a 3-3 draw. The outcome sees the Stanley Club side still occupying top slot but have now had their advantage cut to three points by their nearest rival whilst the Rainford X boys continue in fourth place.

Upholland Social took on Aughton Institute E this particular week and at the end of the evening it saw the Aughton E outfit come away with an incredibly, hard-fought 4-2 triumph to keep their title aspirations alive. This result sees the Aughton Institute E lads move up into second position, where they sit those three points off the pace-setters but have a very important match in hand over them. The match also saw Upholland’s, Andy Singleton in terrific form, once again, as he sealed this week’s ‘Break of the Week’ for the second successive week. This time he engineered an excellent break of 43 in his frame win.

Olympic BC B went into battle with Defending Champions, Fleetwood Hesketh SSC this week and it saw the Fleetwood boys manufacture a very solid 4-2 away victory. The outcome sees the Olympic B team drop into third spot in the league table, some five points off the summit. Meanwhile, the Fleetwood Hesketh side remain in fifth. The match also saw Fleetwood’s captain, Jon Holmes in superb nick, yet again, as he compiled a very nice break of 41 in his frame success.

The other match played this time saw Aughton Institute A clash with Scarisbrick NSC and it was the Aughton A boys who took the plaudits with a cracking 5-1 home victory. This result still sees the Aughton Institute A side continuing in eighth slot.

Other notable break this week was – S Evans Snr (Olympic BC B) 32.

Division 2

This particular week saw league action continue in the Second Division Two and we saw long-time, pace-setters, Aughton Institute B, take on Skelmersdale Wardens B and at the end of evening it was the Skelmersdale B lads who took the plaudits as they edged out their opponents with a superb 4-2 triumph to end the Aughton B team’s magnificent ten match unbeaten run. The outcome sees the Aughton Institute B outfit continuing at the apex of the league standings but have had their lead cut to just a single point by their nearest challenger.

Aughton Institute D clashed with Skelmersdale Wardens A this week and it was the Aughton D boys who were in top form as they recorded a superb 5-1 victory. This result saw the Aughton Institute D team unchanged in second position but they have closed right up to just that one point adrift of their club compatriot leaders. Both teams now sit some seven and six points clear respectively. The match also saw Skelmersdale A’s, Paul Holcroft in good nick with a nice break of 23 in his frame success.

The next match we saw Farmers Club B go into battle with Aughton Institute C and at the end of the evening’s play it saw the Aughton C outfit engineer an excellent 4-2 away win. This outcome sees the Farmers B side continue in third position in the league proceedings whilst the Aughton Institute C lads move up into fourth place. The match also saw Aughton C’s, Mick Williams in fine touch with a very nice break of 27 in his frame victory.

The final match this played this week saw St Cuthberts B met club compatriots, St Cuthberts A in an intriguing Halsall ‘Derby’ encounter. On conclusion of affairs it saw the Cuthberts A side edge out their B team rivals with a 4-2 ‘away’ success. The match saw St Cuthbert A’s, Steve McBrinn in good form with a nice break of 21 in his frame win.

The match between Olympic BC A & Farmers Club A postponed this week has been rescheduled for Tuesday 11th March.

Other notable break this week was – G Dwyer (Aughton Institute D) 20.
