Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League (Weekly Report 08/10/24 & 10/10/24) The Miss Rule For 2024-25 Season The miss rule will remain exactly the same as the previous two seasons as we all felt it worked very well so it is as follows for the forthcoming 2024-25 season. In DIVISION 2 LEAGUE MATCHES, ALL SECOND DIVISION CUP MATCHES & ALL DIVISION 2 INDIVIDUAL & PAIRS MATCHES there will be ONE compulsory miss awarded and NO further misses called after this. If a FIRST DIVISION team OR player is playing a SECOND DIVISION team OR player then just TWO COMPULSORY MISSES ONLY TO BE CALLED AND THEN MOVE ON SO NO DISCRETION GIVEN TO THE MARKER In DIVISION 1 LEAGUE MATCHES, ALL FIRST DIVISION MATCHES & ALL DIVISION 1 INDIVIDUAL & PAIRS MATCHES then the rule is UNCHANGED from previous seasons so it's TWO compulsory misses awarded then over to the marker’s discretion. Alternate Picks Alternate pairings will continue to be used in LEAGUE MATCHES & KENNEY CUP GROUP STAGE MATCHES. Home captain to provide the first name followed by the away captain providing two names. After the completion of the first two frames a third name to be nominated by the home captain followed by two names from the away captain. Once again, and finally, the fifth name to be nominated by the home captain followed by the final two names from the away captain. Player Handicaps 2024-25 List The Player Handicap list can be found on our website under the DOCUMENTS section. Representatives are expected to print this out and display in your appropriate club and maybe a good idea would be for all captains or a team player to take a picture of it and store on your phone. THE PLAYER HANDICAP LIST WILL BE UPDATED ONCE DURING THE ENTIRETY OF THE SEASON WHICH WILL BE AT THE CHRISTMAS BREAK BUT THE COMMITTEE HAVE THE POWER TO AMEND ANY PLAYER'S HANDICAP AT ANY TIME IF WE FEEL IT IS INCORRECT SO OBVIOUSLY UNFAIR. Thank you for your co-operation in advance. Early Start Matches Please be aware that matches played at Farmers Club will ALWAYS be a 7.30pm start. Thank you for your co-operation in advance. Reminder – Submitting Results Can I ask all team captains that if you are borrowing a player from another team (within the league rules) that you text myself (Barry Adlington) IMMEDIATELY to inform me of this and I will place that players name in your team list. This enables you to submit your result correctly. Thank you for your co-operation on this matter. Neutral Venues Now On Website Neutral venues for Semi-finals & Finals can now be viewed on our website. This obviously makes it easier for players to view their information without having to contact myself or wait until they are next in their club to consult the monthly circular. Circular. Olympic Bowling Club Dress Code I have been asked by the Olympic BC committee to remind everyone around the league of their dress code when visiting the club. Smart jeans and trainers are now allowed to be worn but they still have the minimum requirement of a collared shirt or t-shirt. This has not been adhered to recently and can I remind everyone that we must respect the club rules for future visits. Thank you. UK League Snooker Championship 2024 Last weekend saw the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League representative side compete in the latest renewal of the UK League Snooker Championship 2024 as Defending Champions. Our league were taking part in this very prestigious event for an amazing fifteenth consecutive time and have now become the only league to compete in every single year since the inception of it back in 2009. What a defence we put up but very sadly we lost a very close semi-final to the West Midlands A team. The event was held for the first time at the fantastic Landywood Snooker Club, Walsall and our squad consisted of Barry Adlington (Captain), Gareth Hibbott, Paul Williams, Martin Brown, Chris Hoare, Andy Booth & Jon Holmes and not forgetting the wonderful help and support from Leon Dunn, Gerry Morgan & Viv Ruscoe, I can't thank these guys enough for giving their time over Friday, Saturday & Sunday for our league, as well as their fabulous efforts, commitment and Gareth's, Paul's, Martin's, Chris's, Andy’s & Jon's tremendous playing over such a very busy two days of very hard fought and top-class, competitive snooker. Division 1 Olympic BC B have now taken sole leadership at the head of the league standings in the top flight of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League after a terrific 6-0 demolition of their opponents, Scarisbrick NSC. The Olympic B side got off to a flying start taking the first two frames to hold an authoritative 2-0 lead. The next two frames also saw the Olympic BC lads continue to totally dominate the contest by also taking these two frames to record an unassailable 4-0 lead. The trend did not change as frames five and six also saw the Olympic B team complete the rout at the conclusion of proceedings for this totally one-sided affair. This result saw the Olympic BC B outfit move into a handy three point advantage at the head of the table at this very early stage. The match also saw Olympic B’s, Paul Williams in fine form with nice breaks of 34 and 32. Defending Champions, Fleetwood Hesketh SSC, came up against last season’s runners-up, Upholland Social, and at the end of the evening neither side could cement a victory as a 3-3 draw was recorded. This match started with the initial two frames being split between both teams to leave this encounter delicately balanced at 1-1. The middle two frames also saw each outfit win a frame apiece to see things there for the taking at 2-2. The last two frames, were yet again, divided up between both sides to see the contest through to the stalemate. This outcome sees the Fleetwood boys sit in second place in the league table whilst the Upholland lads occupy third slot, both on the same number of points. The match also saw Upholland’s new boy, Richie Spring Jnr clinch this week’s “Break of the Week” accolade with a very nice break of 37. Aughton Institute E clashed with Rainford X SSC and at the end of affairs it saw both sides take a share of the spoils with a 3-3 stalemate. The opening two frames of this clash saw both teams grab one frame each to leave the match closely poised at 1-1. Frames three and four were also split between both outfits and this saw the encounter up for grabs at 2-2 going into the final part of the match. The concluding two frames saw each team, once again, clinch one frame apiece and this saw the contest conclude with the stalemate. The result saw the Aughton E boys remain unchanged in fourth position in the league proceedings, some four points off the leaders but with an important match in hand over the three sides above them. The Rainford X team lie in sixth. The next two frames saw the Stanley Club team battle straight back by taking both of these frames to level the contest at 2-2. The final two frames saw the comeback complete as the Stanley lads grabbed both these two frames to finalise their fine win. Division 2 This time around saw Aughton Institute D become new leaders of our Second Division after a terrific 5-1 away triumph over Skelmersdale Wardens A. The contest saw the Aughton D lads straight into top gear as they grabbed both the opening two frames of the match to move into an authoritative 2-0 lead. The middle two frames saw, once again, the Aughton Institute D outfit win both these frames to move into an unassailable 4-0 advantage. The outcome sees the Aughton D boys sit level on points with their nearest rival but top proceedings as they have one draw more than them. Aughton Institute B came up against Skelmersdale Wardens B and at the conclusion of the evening saw them cement an excellent 5-1 victory. Frames three and four were also divided up between both teams and this brought the match to an exciting finale as it lay in the melting pot at 2-2. The concluding two frames of this encounter saw the Farmers A boys move up a gear, at such a crucial stage of the contest, as they managed to win both frames to seal their victory. This outcome sees the Farmers Club A side occupy third slot in the table, just a single point adrift of the two sides above them. This match saw Olympic A’s skipper, Carl Deaves in fine form with a really nice break of 32 in his frame success.
