Congratulations to our competition Secretary Adam Noonan for his victory in the 2022 UK Disability Snooker Championship last week at Barretts, Northampton. In the Group 6B competition for players with autism there was to be a new winner, however, as debutant Adam Noonan shocked former champions Leroy Williams and Peter Geronimo to claim the top prize at the first attempt.
It was to prove a highly-competitive group with close matches throughout the knockout rounds, but it was to be 25-year-old Noonan who would emerge victorious with a 3-1 final success against Geronimo to claim the title.
Robbie Hayes's family has organised a night to remember him. At the Rafa 21st March, the club is open from 5 pm. Hope to see all his friends there to give him a good send-off.
Tony Cook Sec MDBSA sent this message - I’ve decided to hold a mins applause for Robbie Hayes prior to the start of the Intermediate competition on Sun 15th May at 10am, this will include all the league representatives sides from across Merseyside as I know Robbie really loved the competition and was very emotional when he won it just a few years ago. I’ve asked my colleague Phil Whitehead to do this.
I have just heard some very sad news that Robbie Hayes has passed away suddenly, Robbie loved his snooker and was a former Wallasey Champion in 1994-95 and also Vets winner in 2016-17, he also held the highest break twice in 1992-93, a 73 break and 1997-98 when he had 102 break. A great match player, Robbie will be sadly missed by all his family, friends and snooker team-mates. R.I.P. Robbie.
On behalf of the MDBSA I would like to pass on my deepest condolences to all the family and friends of Robbie Hayes who sadly passed away yesterday. Ever since I became Secretary of the Merseyside Association a decade ago, I had the pleasure of getting to know Robbie and I know he was a massive supporter of everyone who represented Wallasey in both Interleague competitions and any players from the Wirral who were participating in our competitions, he certainly helped guide them to their respective successes. He loved the game of snooker with a passion and from what I gather, he was very highly respected by many who valued his regular support and guidance. He will be truly missed at our future events. Our thoughts are with Robbie’s family and all his close friends and colleagues in the Wallasey Snooker League at this sad time.
Could all current league trophy holders please return them asap Thanks
NOTE: Liam Wharton is still registered, but now for Potshots even though his name appears as deregistered for King St and on individual comps this is because he had played a game for King St so his record couldn't be deleted.
A reminder that all player's mobile phones should be off or SILENT during any league or cup matches and referee's not to use them while refereeing.
All players handicaps have now be updated on the website after the re-handicapping. NOTE. A correction to the re-handicapping sheet I handed out Tom Potts Handicap is 80 not 77 as shown on it, the website is correct.
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all.
Some Wallasey Competition fixtures are listed on the website all results to the new Competition Secretary Adam Noonan 07751 021292.
Can all Captains please make sure all matches are played to a finish (the black ball) and not conceded part way through, even if the match is potentially won, as we play aggregate points and players individual handicaps are based on that figure, as we want as accurate handicaps as possible so it doesn't help if points are given away.
02.11.21 League Fixtures for the continuing new season are now listed on the website, (select season 2021-22 from the drop down box, then table or fixtures heading). PLEASE NOTE- Sacred Heart have 4 home fixtures on a Monday to avoid clashes with the Deeside league.
